Most of us suffer from the
insecurity that ‘we are not good enough’ or ‘we do not deserve the best’ at
some deep level. This is the effect of the sacred wound inflicted on us,
usually at a tender age. Unfortunately, our society’s conditioning is such that
we are made to believe that we lack in self – worth. And we carry this wound
with us, through our lives, allowing it to color our views, opinions and
decisions.

The beginning

The sacred wounds usually occur during our early childhood
when we face rejections from our parents or relatives for having different
thoughts which may not conform to what has been followed for years or is a set
tradition. It is termed as ‘rebellion’ and we are told that we are wrong and if
continue on this path, we will be abandoned or not loved. Children who suffer
from sexual abuse at a young age especially at the hands of a trusted relative
carry these wounds deep in their hearts. Scared, traumatized and negatively
affected they build up barriers to protect themselves. At times, the core wound could also be
generational, passing down to us from our forefathers.

These wounds can come later in our life too, due to an
abusive relationship, trauma, near death experience (NDE) or loss of a loved one.
But these are actually sacred wounds.
